Atomatic was founded in 1945 to design and install HVAC systems for the rapidly expanding residential new construction marketplace. Founders Stan Lundquist and Bob Johnson established Atomatic’s first headquarters at 6500 N. Clark Street in Chicago.  They settled on the name Atomatic because of two significant events that occurred the same year, the advent of the atom bomb and the trend in manufacturing to produce products that were automatic instead of manual.  By 1960, the company’s growth necessitated a move to larger space on Pulaski Road.

The post WW II housing market continued to grow, and by 1968, Atomatic was installing HVAC systems in approximately 1500 homes per year.  New owners, Ted Myers and Ken Bauer decided it was time to move the company to the suburbs and chose Arlington Heights as the location of Atomatic’s new headquarters.  In 1991, Atomatic was sold to JWP (now Emcor) a billion dollar HVAC consolidator.

Partners Dick Hoffman, Matt Turk and Dennis Hammond purchased Atomatic in 1993.  Hammond, used his expertise to guide the residential side of the business until his semi-retirement in 1998.  Turk brought his prior experience in design/build marketplace to start Atomatic’s commercial design/build construction division.  Hoffman, having developed the Hoffman Trane Service organization, started Atomatic’s residential and commercial service division.

Under the leadership of Hoffman & Turk, Atomatic continued to grow and diversify.  Today, Atomatic operates out of its 37,000 square foot headquarters at 3733 N. Ventura in Arlington Heights.  The company is known as a very diverse, design/build, commercial and residential HVAC mechanical contractor.  Its service division continues to expand in size and scope to accommodate changing needs within the marketplace.  In 2004, Atomatic added a controls division to provide additional services to customers.
